Description
Field visits undertaken in 1977-8 by various field staff as research for the Prehistory section of the volume 'A History of the County of Chester, Volume 1' (published 1987), part of the Victoria History of the Counties of England series. This work was undertaken as a partnership, begun in 1971, between Cheshire County Council and the University of London Institute of Historical Research.
The programme of research for the above volume was co-ordinated by D.M.T Longley (Field Officer for Cheshire, Dept. of the Environment) and the resulting archive termed the 'Longley Archive'. The original archive includes recording forms and survey plans, also record cards, which are retained in the Historic Environment Record library for Cheshire West and Chester. (1)
