Medieval or later wooden implement found close to the river Dane, in a badly drained field. Survival due to waterlogging. Implement entirely of wood, c.85cm long, with a slightly convex working end & a 35cm long handle. Possibly used to break thin sandstone slabs to make a drain, one of which was constructed over the top of the implement .

An overflow duct made of thin sandstone slabs leading fro the ram at Honeyfall Well ( which provides the water for Wincle Grange) to the River Dane. During the constrcution of a fish farm in a field adjoining the Dane the lower stretch of the old duct was destroyed ( April 1978) and a wooden implement ( possibly used for breaking sandstone slabs) was found.
