Please read our .

Summary

A bronze age barrow known as one of 'Robin Hood's Butts' is recorded in 1661 as containg 'the armes of a man in an upright posture'. A field called Robin Hood's Butts on old maps shows no trace of a barrow. Round barrows are a type of burial mound, particularly used in the Bronze Age. Mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow could be re-used for several later burials.
