Full Description
In 1947, Mr Morrey of Morrey's Nurseries, Kelsall, ploughed up large stones later thought to have been the cist of a tumulus and traces of fire and bones. G Webster excavated the site in 1951. A circle of stones 10' in diameter was found at a depth of 14". Outside this was a ditch. The cremated bones of a child were found as a secondary burial in an inverted MBA urn, 4' deep at the side the of the circle. There was no mound on the site, which had been cultivated for a long time (1). Site destroyed by market garden (3). Excavation by GB leach in 1950. Urn and possible cist. Secondary cremation of child in inverted urn (4).
