Description

Desk-based research and field survey undertaken in 1978-9 by D.M.T Longley (Field Officer for Cheshire, Dept. of the Environment) for the Prehistory section of the volume 'A History of the County of Chester, Volume 1', published 1987, part of the Victoria History of the Counties of England series (Source 1). This work was undertaken as a partnership, begun in 1971, between Cheshire County Council and the University of London Institute of Historical Research. Staff from the Weaver Museum (P.J.Wagstaff, L.Hawkins) also contributed to the research and site visits. Original archive, termed the 'Longley Archive', produced as result of this research, includes recording forms and survey plans, also record cards; they are retained in the Historic Environment Record library for Cheshire West and Chester (Source 2). See also source 3.
