Summary

A Bronze Age cremation was found in 1960 by workmen carrying out excavations for a swimming pool in the grounds of Beech Hall School, Tytherington. The cremation was underneath an inverted urn. There may originally have been a barrow covering it but all trace of this has been lost with the previous levelling of the site for tennis courts. The urn is a plain collared urn and has been dated to the middle Bronze Age. The bones were identified as an adult of small stature and probably female.

Bronze Age inurned cremation. Found in June 1960 by workmen carrying out excavations for a swimming pool in the grounds of Beech Hall School, Tytherington. The urn was c.2ft below the present ground surface, inverted on a gravel layer. There may originally have been a barrow covering it but all trace of this has been lost with the previous levelling of the site for tennis courts. The urn is a plain collared urn, of reddish brown fabric & has been dated to the middle Bronze Age. The bones were identified by Professor A J E Cave of Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, as an adult of small stature and probably female
