Summary

Tumulus. Said to be covered with trees at a spot known locally as 'Barrow's Field', near Pigeonhouse Farm. No trace of a barrow in the vicinity. The only artificial feature is a large tree-covered marl-pit, which may be the site indicated. Round barrows are a type of burial mound, particularly used in the Bronze Age. Mounds of earth and stone were placed over a burial or cremation. A single barrow could be re-used for several later burials.

Full Description

Tumulus reported by Graham Webster. Said to be covered with trees at a spot known locally as 'Barrow's Field', near Pigeonhouse Farm. No trace of a barrow in the vicinity. The only artificial feature is a large tree-covered marl-pit, which may be the site indicated by Webster. The farmer was unaware of any mound (1).
