Find Spot record 1578 - Bronze Age Cremation, Sutton Parish

About 1877-78 an inurned cremation burial was found near Leather's Smithy during repairs to a reservoir. The urn contained a quantity of burnt human bones, apparently those of a young person and a finely polished leaf-shaped flint arrowhead and fragments of a barbed arrowhead that had been partly calcined. The urn was 8 inches high & from 4 to 7.5 inches wide and was inverted (1). VCH describe the urn as of collared type. Finds not located (2).
