Description

An RCHME supported survey of textile mills in east Cheshire, the centre of the silk industry in England. The survey established that the factory system, and the architecture associated with it pre-dated by a generation the more widely known factories of Richard Arkwright and others. This survey goes beyond just looking at the factories but also includes the houses, landscapes and communities generated by the industry. (1-2)
