Summary
A mill erected in the 1870's for fustian cutting.
Fustian is a mixed fibre cloth of linen, cotton and sometimes silk. It is woven in such a way the the surface can be cut to produce a nap. Cutting was originally done by hand and the cutter needed to walk up and down the room all day. The rooms used for this process needed a long floorspace and substantial flooring.
