Full Description
Meadow mill was built in 1860, probably for silk throwing. Due to the collapse of the silk industry, the mill was converted for fustian cutting by Thomas and John Sheperd of Royton (1) A good example of a mid Victorian silk mill. It comprised three brick built storeys 14 by 3 bays, with a pitched slate roof. The windows were rectangular with stone sills and lintels. A stone plaque on the south frontage bears the year of construction (2). On OS 1st ed. 6" and 25" Maps (3 & 4).
