Monument record 2612/1/6 - Cow Lane Mill

Cotton mill built in the late 1780s, probably water powered (1). Ordnance Survey 1st Edition 25" map (sheet published 1873) labels the site as a silk mill (3). Ordnance Survey 2nd Edition 25" map (sheet published 1897-1899) labels the site as disused (4). The mill is thought to have been built around 1786 and to have gone out of use around 1900. The structure still stands as a ruin and two seasons of archaeological excavation identified surviving features of the mill (5)
