Summary

The mill and mill pond are depicted on the Tithe map for the Buglawton township and on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 25" to 1 mile map (1881-1886). On the tithe map Weathercock Lane skirts to the north east of the mill race before doglegging back the present course of the lane in front of Weathercock Farm. It doing so the lane fords the head of the mill race and the brook. On later maps the dogleg has been removed and the road bridges the mill race and brook. Later nineteenth century and early twentieth century maps depict the mill as disused and the mill race as an earthwork. The mill is a two storey building built of stone, with brick and timber additions. A silted up mill pond lies to the east. The arrival of the silk industry in the 1750's brought new prosperity and growth to Congleton with up to thirty four mills operating in the town using the River Dane & Howty Brook.
