Summary

Listed in the gazetteer of East Cheshire Textile Mills. The mill is situated within a meander of the river Dane. A mill is shown at this NGR on 1st ed. OS maps 6" (1881-2) & 25" (1875) of Cheshire.The mill is brick built, 24 bays long with a four bay central pediment on the south eastern frontage and a square brick chimney. A weir is located to the east. Recorded as being occupied by Henry Barton, Silk Throwster, and James Pearson & Co., ribbon manufacturers, in 1874 and later Pearson’s in 1896. The arrival of the silk industry in the 1750's brought new prosperity and growth to Congleton with up to thirty four mills operating in the town using the River Dane and Howty Brook.

Listed in the gazetteer of East Cheshire Textile Mills. The mill is situated within a meander of the river Dane; a leat would have carried water to a wheel located centrally within the mill. Thomas Slate erected a ‘Rotative Beam Crank’ steam engine at the site in 1801. Samuel Pearson acquired the mill in 1836 (1).

The mill is brick built, 24 bays long with a four bay central pediment on the south eastern frontage and a square brick chimney. A weir is located to the east. Occupied by Henry Barton, Silk Throwster, and James Pearson & Co., ribbon manufacturers, in 1874. Also Pearson’s in 1896. Sheds to the rear used for silk spinning (4).
