Full Description
<1> Longden G, 1988, The Industrial Revolution in East Cheshire: Six Theme Walks, p.14 (Book). SCH3193.
Built in 1784 by J Gaskell, as a water powered cotton mill. The mill was extended in 1805, and a second mill pool built. Part destroyed by fire in 1868, and demolished in 1922. Only the pool survives.

A textile mill built in the 1780s. It had two waterwheels of six metres in diameter placed one above the other, but employed a steam engine in “dry seasons”.

Brook Mill Gasworks: Gasometer marked on 1881 Ordnance Survey map, indicating a private gasworks to the mill. Disused by 1897. Nothing survives of the mill.

This map depicts a complex of buildings and structures which include a circular building or structure labelled gasometer. To the south-east is a large pond with a weir across the River Dean at its south-eastern end. A sluice is depicted at the north-western end. The complex is labelled Brook Mill (Cotton).
