Full Description
Former water powered mill on River Dean, at one time worked by the Swindells family. Mill pond east of Bollington Higher Mill. Mill taken over in 1875 by Henry and Leigh Slater, paper stainers. Still working (1). Built in 1790s by George Antrobus, as a water powered cotton mill. Shared a gas works with Higher Mill. Water wheel moved outside the mill, at the time of construction of a new water system, 1832-1859. Water power was retained because water powered mills were excluded from legal restrictions on working hours (2).
