Summary

Now demolished mill listed in the Gazetteer of East Cheshire Textile Mills. The arrival of the silk industry in the 1750's brought new prosperity and growth to Congleton with up to thirty four mills operating in the town using the River Dane and Howty Brook.

Full Description

A water powered mill, with additional support from a steam engine. A 'Rotative, Side Lever Independent' engine was installed by Jesse Drakeford before 1809 (1). Marked as a silk mill on OS 1st ed. Maps (2 & 3).
