Full Description
Built in 1784 by Richard Martin. Congletons first cotton mill. Occupied by hall and Johnson for silk throwing in 1822. Had an internally positioned wheel, situated at the centre of the basement/ground floor. The river was dammed to form a mill pool and used to turn the water wheel (1). On OS 1st ed. 6" (2). Three storeys and a basement, brick built, rectangular windows with stone sills and lintels, 18 bays long. Two bay centre with pediment and clock, hipped roof (3). Known on the Modern landline amps as Martin's Mill
