Summary

Only the weir survives from this mill, built around 1828. It was probably the only water powered mill in east Cheshire to have been built after 1826. Shown as a Silk Mill on 1st edition OS 6" (1881-82) and 25" (1875) maps of Cheshire. The arrival of the silk industry in the 1750's brought new prosperity and growth to Congleton with up to thirty four mills operating in the town using the River Dane & Howty Brook.

Full Description

Built around 1828. Probably the only water powered mill in east Cheshire to have been built after 1826 (1). Silk mill on OS 1st ed. 25 and 6 maps (2 & 3). Only the weir survives. Peter Hunt was a throwster there in 1860 (4).
