Monument record 1109/7 - Newfield Mill

Newfield Mill is one of two silk mills which are shown on the Ordnanace Survey First Edition map of 1873 (1).

The silk industry was an important economic element of the town during the 19th century (2).

Not depicted on the 1841 tithe map for Sandbach (4).

The mill was demolished sometime between 1970 and 1985 (5 & 6).

By the early twentieth century (1909) the mill was producing fustian and known as Commons Mill (7).
