Summary

Former cotton mill comprising of three storeys, brick built with a stone-faced front. One of only three sites in Congleton at which silk spinning took place in the mid 19th century. By 1834, powered weaving had been introduced by several companies in Cheshire, including at Bath Vale Mill through Charles and William Vaudrey. Cotton mills shown at this NGR on 1st edition OS 6" (1881-82) and 25" (1875) maps of Cheshire.

Full Description

This was one of only three sites in Congleton at which silk spinning was taking place in the mid C19th. By 1834, powered weaving had been introduced through Charles and William Vaudrey (1 & 5). Cotton mills shown on the first edition OS (6" & 25") at this NGR (2 & 3). Former cotton mill comprising of three storeys, brick built with a stone-faced front. Row of five cottages to the south east, with three storeys at the front and two to the rear (4).
