Description

A series of small research excavations (also observations) undertaken across Nantwich in the 1970s funded by Cheshire County Council. These excavations were led by professional archaeologists and local experts but were limited in scope with often only minimal documentation and post excavation work. The work was however valuable in highlighting the town's archaeological potential and informed the production of an Implications Survey (B.Williams) and an archaeological programme for Nantwich. (sources 1-4) Described as the 'Nantwich Archaeology Project' by Robina McNeil-Sale in an article for CAB in 1980 summarising recent archaeological work. (sources 5-6) See attached event and monument records for further information and sources.
