Full Description
1978, Written correspondance, Nantwich, 31/01/1978 (Written Communication). SCH7368.
Observations during construction of a mains sewer running across the High Street revealed 'black soil' to a depth of 12 feet with no evidence of undisturbed sub soil. The trench cut through two possibly three hollowed-out tree trunks which occurred at different levels down the depth of the excavation. Thought to be drains or conduits and potentially connected with the brine working industry. They were in good condition and contained straw, scraps of leather and what appeared to be a wooden shovel blade.
