Description
A local architect (Bower, Edleston & Partners), in a letter to the County Planner, Cheshire County Council dated 31/01/1978, records some observations made during visits to excavations for local building work. These include a excavation of a large hole for a petrol storage tank immediately west of the Cheshire Cat, Welsh Row. The excavation was at least 15ft deep in which the soil was black and 'a considerable amount of timber' was present throughout the depth of the excavation.
