Description

Small excavation carried out to rear of house (31 Hospital Sreet). Brick-lined cess pit removed to depth of 1m revealed a complex of organic soil and clay layers totalling 2m in depth. Upper layers had birch twigs, animal bones and mussel shells. Lower waterlogged levels produced three timber beams, C13-C15 medieval pot, plain and decorated floor tiles and a leather shoe. Finds with excavator.
