Description
Record of the discovery of a timber road during cutting of trenches for mains drainage between 1978 and 1980. The road was encountered on three occasions outside No's 16/18 Hospital Street, No 20 Hospital Street and in the middle of Church Lane. In Hospital Street it appears that this timber plank road superceded an earlier corduroy road. Although no dating recovered, the surfaces are believed to be medieval.
