Description
PORTICO is a cooperative project between Chester, Gent (Belgium), Köln (Germany), Utrecht (the Netherlands) and the Initiatief Domplein foundation in Utrecht. The project's goal is to make the partner cities' archaeological heritage visible by developing new methods, techniques and ways of thinking about urban development – above and below ground.
The project in Chester includes repairs and restoration of the city walls towers through the use of ultralightweight building techniques and materials (such as using composite technology). This will be promoted and replicated across Europe as an example of archaeological good practice.
