Please read our .

Summary

This section of the southern part of the city walls extends from the Drum Tower approximately 50 east of the Bridgegate (CHER 12000/29) and the Bridgegate (CHER 12000/32). Built in the late eleventh century or early twelfth century, the coursed red sandstone walls were converted into a raised promenade between 1702 and 1708. It can be assumed that this section of the wall was also repaired at various times throughout the medieval and post medieval periods. The part adjoining the Bridgegate, at Lower Bridge St. was altered significantly in 1782 by Joseph Turner.
