Description

Evaluation carried out by Oxford Archaeology North in 2010 comprising eight evaluation trenches and seven geotechnical pits in advance of proposed landscaping in the area surrounding the cathedral. The work was planned due to the high potential for human remains close to the present ground level as well as the opportunity to investigate the archaeological evidence for earlier periods. (2) Human remains were encountered, primarily of a post medieval date with one probable medieval burial in trench 2d buried within a stone cist. Post medieval structural activity recorded in trenches 2a and 2b while Roman remains were also encountered in trenches 2a and 2d. (2)
