Description
Programme of archaeological excavation and a watching brief monitoring groundworks at the former Rylands Garage uncovered evidence for a late first to early second century (possibly) industrial building adjacent to what were interpreted as field boundary ditches and a buried cultivation soil (1). A hiatus in activity is then noted until further cultivation soils are recorded in the third century. From the medieval period, pit activity is recorded in the thirteenth - fourteenth century while post-medieval pits, structures and layers indicate metalworking in the area (1).
