Summary

Archaeological investigations between Russell Street and City Road, on the site of the former Ryland's Garage between 2003 and 2005 identified evidence of late post medieval features. The evidence was largely confined to the eastern part of the trench and consisted of an 18th century brick lined well and several small pits. Traces of later 18th-19th century brick foundations enclosing a wooden plank floor were also noted.

Full Description

Archaeological investigations between Russell Street and City Road, on the site of the former Rylands Garage between 2003 and 2005 identified evidence of post medieval features in trench 4 of the excavations.

The evidence was largely confined to the eastern part of the trench and consisted of an 18th century brick lined well and several small pits. Traces of later 18th-19th century brick foundations enclosing a wooden plank floor were also noted. (1)
