Site Event/Activity record ECH3831 - Oversley Farm, Styal, Cheshire: Excavations in advance of Manchester Airport's Runway 2, 1997-8. Volumes 1-2

Report of the Oversley Farm excavation undertaken between May 1997 - September 1998 on the site of the proposed second runway for Manchester Airport. The excavation was the culmination of a systematic programme of archaeological investigation. The archaeological evidence recorded through the excavation demonstrates a re-use of the Oversley Farm site from the Early Neolithic onwards, primarilly as a small, agriculturally-based 'farmstead', probably heavily dependent on livestock farming, particularly sheep. The identification and excavation of a hitherto unknown unenclosed Neolithic and Early Bronze Age settlement site in the North West is very significant. The stratified sequence of deposits produced an assemblage of well-dated artefactural and ecofactural evidence. Report issued in two volumes.
