Monument record 5045 - The Post Medieval Period at Oversley Farm

Excavation at Oversley Farm 1997-1998 in advance of runway expansion at Manchester Airport

The sequence appears to indicate that the area of the medieval structure continued to be the focus of activity in the 17th and 18th centuries. The ditched enclosures, established during the late medieval period, continued in use and were still apparent on the 1st Edition O.S. of 1870. Additional enclosure ditches were added at the southern end of the site. Among the artefactual evidence was a collection of metal objects recovered from the plough soil context by a combination of initial site clean up and metal detectors.
