Monument record 5037 - Early Neolithic at Oversley Farm

Excavation at Oversley Farm 1997-1998 in advance of runway expansion at Mancester Airport

The Early Neolithic at Oversley Farm comprised evidence for at least one small rectangular timber structure, within which were two possible hearths, pits, a flint scatter and the hollow way. The site also produced ceramic and lithic artefacts indicative of domestic activity and charred cereals indicating small scale crop production.
It would appear that the Early Neolithic at Oversley Farm was represented by a timber long house with two internal hearth type features and associated domesrtic material. A secondary area with a single structural element may represent another building. Further deposits suggest a period of abandonment followed by deliberate infilling.
