Abstract/Summary

Between November 1998 and January 1999 the University of Manchester Archaeological Unit were commissioned to carry out an archaeological excavation on the site known as The Bars, Chester. The site, which occupies an area of c4000m squared, was to be redeveloped for residential accommodation, which would result in the demolition of most of the standing buildings and the reduction of ground levels in specific areas.
