Abstract/Summary
Fieldwork carried out during renewal of the footway in Bridge street, Chester, revealed well-preserved archaeological deposits of roman date just below the level of the modern pavement. Remain encountered included stone drains, pits, beam slots and postholes. Natural bedrock was encountered in some trenches, less than 1m below the modern grounds surface.
