Full Description
Archaeological investigations carried out in 2011 during the installation of road improvements along Bridge Street recorded a number of archaeological features including several pits and post holes between 44 and 52 Bridge Street.
Archaeological features were grouped in two areas, the first at 44-46 Bridge Street produced a pit, three post holes and a post in trench feature in a broadly linear fashion whilst the second group to the south recorded two post holes and a further pit on a similar alignment to group one.
All features appeared to broadly date to the mid first to second century AD and the early phase of activity in the fortress. The features appear to relate to at least one timber structure fronting onto Bridge Street, however, given the limited nature of the excavations it was difficult to draw any further conclusions. (1)
