Summary

The ‘Little Abbey Gateway’ into the Abbey of St Werburgh’s precinct, now the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary (CHER 10641), was the back entrance to the precinct, opening off Northgate St. to the west, as opposed to the main abbey gateway (CHER 10640/7). It consists of a small segmental arch, a single four-centred arch, partly built into the adjoining property on the north (currently 90 Northgate St.).

Full Description

The ‘Little Abbey Gateway’ into the Abbey of St Werburgh’s precinct, now the Cathedral Church of Christ and the Blessed Virgin Mary (CHER 10641), was the back entrance to the precinct, opening off Northgate St. to the west, as opposed to the main abbey gateway (CHER 10640/7). It consists of a small segmental arch, a single four-centred arch, partly built into the adjoining property on the north (currently 90 Northgate St.) (1, 2, 5).
