Description

Excavations in the northeast corner of Goss Street with Hamilton Place on the site formerly investigated by Webster and Richmond in 1948 (ECH3144). This excavation was one of a series carried out on the street between 1968-1973, and two adjacent rectangular areas were excavated at this time; Area A was 13 by 9m, Area B was 5 by 3m, and Area B was laid out so that it would touch the anticipated western wall of the Principia. Removal of the surface tarmac revealed numerous features, walls, pits and trench IV of the 1948 excavations. Medieval buildings, Tudor ones, and those from the seventeenth century and later were all recorded (1).
