Summary

Traces of a Roman road surface to the west of the cross hall of the headquarters building (principia) was recorded to the south east of the elliptical building baths. On this occasion at least four succesive road surfaces were identified along with a kerbstone and a possible drainage channel.

Full Description

Traces of the road to the west of the headquarters were recorded during investigations at the Old Market Hall site in 1969. The road ran on a north-south alignment between the headquarters and the south-east corner of the elliptical building bath complex (1). Some four or five external road surfaces were identified along with evidence for a kerbstone and a possible eaves drip channel (3)
