Abstract/Summary

A Parkland Plan for Combermere Park prepared as part of an application for Natural England’s Environmental Stewardship Scheme. The scheme allows for an Higher Level Stewardship agreement which will restore the key elements of the landscape which are of historic value and at the same time safeguard the nature conservation interest of the estate. The Plan examines all aspects of the park which combine to give it such a special sense of place. These include the history and evolution of the park, the ecology of the park and all its diverse elements noting the status of the Mere itself which is a designated SSSI, the archaeology of the park, the trees and woodland and of course the nature of the park’s current management.
