Monument record 346/0/1 - Combermere Abbey Precinct Boundary
Please read our guidance about the use of Cheshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A watercourse running east-west from the outlet south of Comber Mere to the Cocked Hat and the buried and visible remains of a watercourse running east-west from the Cocked Hat, turning north-south to Comber Mere. This boundary defined the parkland depicted on the late eighteenth century estate map and it is likely that this boundary was originally created as the precinct boundary to the Cistercian monastery. The precinct was the area surrounding the abbey and would include the buildings, outbuildings, cemetery, fishponds etc. associated with it.

A watercourse running east - west from the outlet south of Comber Mere to the pond known as the Cocked Hat. This watercourse, together with Entry 3, defined the parkland depicted on the late 18th centuryestate map (Anon c. 1780). It seems likely that this historic boundary was probably created as the precinct boundary to the monastery.
