Find Spot record 163 - Bronze Age axe from near the River Dane

Summary

A bronze, looped and socketed axe with three ribs was found on a farm, close to the River Dane, in 1936. Socketed axes were were cast around a clay core to create the hollow for the prong of the wooden or bone handle to fit into. The loop on the axe was there to allow the axe to be bound to the handle to make a more secure fixing.
