Description

A watching brief carried out over a relatively large area to the rear of 41 - 45 Foregate St., extending eastwards to as far as Queen St., was carried out in 1985 under the so-called Arrow croft Scheme. A hand-written, unpublished report was produced, and describes a Roman occupation or debris layer, some pits or a gully feature, a possible hearth and a north - south trackway. The presence of medieval or post medieval pits is alluded to (1).
