Full Description
During a watching brief carried out in 1985 to the rear of 41 - 45 Foregate St., a possible Roman period hearth, represented by a deposit of burnt clay and tile, was found (1). Although reported only in a preliminary way, the hearth may have been in association with an extensive Roman period occupation or debris layer (CHER 8537), and was sealed by a surface interpreted as a north - south track way (CHER 8536) (1). Due to the limited nature of the excavations, no other comment is possible.
