Full Description
During a watching brief carried out in 1985 to the rear of 41 - 45 Foregate St., an area of hard-standing surface, interpreted as a trackway running north - south was found (1). Although reported only in a preliminary way, this surface was seen to seal an extensive Roman occupation layer (CHER 8537) and possible hearth (CHER 8535) (1). Due to the limited nature of the excavations, no other comment is possible.
