Description
This event was the third phase of an archaeological impact assessment undertaken in January 2002, in the area of the Market Hall, Hunter Street and Goldsmith House, to inform the proposed redevelopment of the Northgate area. Following on from Phases 1 and 2, this phase comprised the hand excavation of six test-pits (10 to 15), one under an overhang at the present Forum Market Hall, two in the pavement on the north side of Hunter St., and three in the car park on the south side of Goldsmith House, Hamilton Place. Significant Roman deposits were encountered at all locations, although no significant remains were found in 13, in the northwest corner of the Goldsmith House car park. (1)
