Description

An archaeological evaluation carried out on a proposed development site to the west of Bridge St., Chester, comprised of six trial trenches. Substantial remains of Roman legionary building(s) were recorded, often with several courses of wall preserved, of high quality masonry. A hearth from the Saxon period was identified, followed by evidence of intensive medieval activity. Cellaring has truncated some of the upper archaeological deposits.
