Full Description
During test excavations at Commonhall Village, off Bridge St. in 1991, evidence of stone robbing during the Saxon period, in addition to evidence of Saxon occupation (CHER 9034), was recorded (1). In a number of the trial trenches excavated, Roman deposits had been cut by pits and sections of stone walls removed (1). The mixed deposits resulting from these activities contained Saxon period finds, and were in turn sealed be medieval soil horizons (1).
