Description

An archaeological evaluation carried out at a proposed development site to the south of The Bars, Chester (1). Eight trial trenches were excavated, each roughly 1.5m by 2m, spaced evenly across the area, and were excavated to subsoil where possible. Soil deposits, surfaces and artefacts of the Roman and medieval periods were recovered, spread across the whole site. A certain amount of disturbance had occurred in the post-medieval period, and a well-built cellar of that date was also recorded (1).
